Bordeaux : trois ans de prison pour des voleurs de grands crus


In September 2020, eight thieves broke into a warehouse and stole more than 1,500 bottles of wine – worth 1 million euros.

All of them are accused of participating, directly or indirectly, in the demolition of a wine merchant’s warehouse near Bordeaux, in September 2020. In one weekend, a group of 8 thieves seized 1,520 bottles of large wine, with a total value of 1 million euros taking advantage of failed systems detection.

The case illustrates a criminal phenomenon that shook Bordeaux’s standing: “Between November 2019 and January 2020, at least 20 burglaries affected wine companies,” assures prosecutor Celine Pages. The prosecutor stressed the “daringness of the film’s heroes,” members of two families between their 30s and 40s, who “returned three times” to the warehouse “to retrieve as many boxes as possible.” Only great wine: Mouton Rothschild, Petrus, Chateau Margot … or 278 in total, half of which were recovered by the courts.
